Italy vs England Betting Preview

Both Italy and England are old foes, who face each other in an opening Group D match. Italy is the betting favorite in the match, as well as being favored to win the group, and after their 2010 World Cup to forget Italy will take three points in this match with a win.

Bovada has World Cup betting odds for this big match with Italy posted at +160 with England at +200 and a draw line of +200.

Italy is a veteran laden squad with a strong midfield led by Andrea Pirlo and a great defense with anchor GK Gianluigi Buffon, who were both heroes of the 2006 World Cup winning squad. One of the big wild cards for Italy is striker Mario Balotelli, who is one of the best in the world, but a very temperamental player.

England has struggled in the last few World Cups, not making the quarterfinals since 1990, and one of the reasons is their defense and goalie play. Joe Hart from Manchester City will be counted on to lead the England defense, but he will not keep a clean sheet in this match facing Balotelli and the attacking Italy midfield.

England also has a good midfield led by captain Steven Gerrard and the offense has star striker in Wayne Rooney. However, the English may not have the talent they have had in the last few World Cup tournaments and the Italians will have the edge in the middle of the pitch.

Don’t look for a high scoring shootout between these two squads, but Italy has more talent and that will lead to a win in their tournament opener.
