Not World Cup Group of Death

Obviously, the Group of Death is Group G with Germany, Portugal, USA, and Ghana, but Group B and D have to be a close second. It is hard to imagine that Group B is not the Group of Death considering two teams in the group played in the finals in the last World Cup.

One of the main reasons that the two groups are not the group of death is that not every team in the group is a good one. In Group B there is Australia and in Group D there is Costa Rica and they have the fifth worst and worst overall odds to win the World Cup.

Group B

Not only are the 2010 finalists in the group in defending champion Spain and Holland, but a Chile squad that ended World Cup qualifying on fire with their new coach. The big match in the group is obviously when Holland and Spain face each other, but each may have problems with Chile.

Chile is playing on their home continent and when Jorge Sampaoli took over as head coach the squad had a four match winning streak, which was their best ever run in the World Cup qualifying process.

Group D

Odds makers have Group D as a three-team race between Uruguay, Italy, and England. All three of these squads have won at least one World Cup, but Uruguay won the very first one and England has struggled in the tournament since winning it on their home soil in 1966. Still, Uruguay has a solid squad, is playing on their home continent, and had a great fourth place showing in 2010 in South Africa.
