Odds Bosnia-Herzegovina Will Win World Cup

Getting drawn into the same group as Argentina at a World Cup taking place in South America is never good news. But there is an upside for Bosnia-Herzegovina, who are +600 to win Group F, well behind the heavily favored Argentines. Playing in their first World Cup, Bosnia-Herzegovina are 10/11 favourites to join Argentina as the two squads who will advance to the Round of 16.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Odds to Win World Cup 2014: 200/1 (from Bovada)
Bosnia-Herzegovina Odds to Win Group F: +600 (from Bovada)

Offense is the key to success for Bosnia-Herzegovina, who sport a solid midfield. But the squad has a defense that can be porous at time. The side has faced few top-tier competitors in the last couple years, but have been competitive when they have. In addition to a 2-1 win over Brazil in a 2012 friendly, the Bosnians posted a win and a tie against Greece in qualifying, while dropping a pair of decisions to USA and Argentina in a pair of  2013 friendlies.

Early World Cup Pick

Participating in their first World Cup, Bosnia-Herzegovina are not in the same elite class as Argentina. But they are leaps and bounds ahead of Iran, who are a +330 longshot to win Group F. The biggest challenge for Bosnia-Herzegovina is likely to come from Nigeria, who closely trail in odds to win the group at +800. The Nigerians are a young, talented squad who, like Bosnia-Herzegovina, will field a questionable defense. Given that they are likely to defeat Iran and will be hard pressed to stop Argentina’s potent offense, Bosnia-Herzegovina’s match against Nigeria will likely determine whether they can advance to the Group Stage.
