Odds Brazil Will Win World Cup 2014
Host nation Brazil will be looking for their sixth World Cup title and their first since 2002. Currently ranked sixth in FIFA’s world rankings, tied with Argentina, Brazil sits as a strong favorite to win the title on home soil. Since winning the Confederations Cup last June, Brazil has been dominant in international friendly action. After losing 1-0 to Switzerland shortly after their Confederations Cup win, the squad won seven straight, outscoring opponents by a combined 25-2.
The Brazilian squad does not feature the array of stars seen in previous years, but still includes a solid supporting cast. They will be looking to 22-year-old Neymar to fulfill his superstar potential. The FC Barcelona forward scored four times in five games to help Brazil win the recent Confederations Cup, and was named the player of the tournament while receiving the Golden Ball Award. He sits among the favorites in World Cup wagering to lead the tournament in scoring.
Early World Cup Pick
Group A is not considered the strongest in the tournament, but that does not mean that Brazil, heavily favored to win the group, will avoid stiff competition. In fact, that is likely to come from Mexico, who has claimed victory against Brazil in three of their last six matches.
The Croats return to the World Cup after failing to qualify in 2010, and are ranked second in the group in 2014 World Cup futures wagering. However, Croatia has posted wins in just two of their last six games.
Cameroon defeated Brazil 1-0 the last time they met, 11 years ago. Ranked a distant No. 50 in the world, Cameroon is not expected to be a threat to Brazil.
