Odds Cameroon Will Win World Cup

The Cameroon squad plays a strong physical game and features a very capable midfield and defense. However, the lack of offensive weapons up front leaves the Cameroon side as a distant longshot to win Group A. Indeed, the squad will be hard-pressed to advance beyond the Group Stage without some unexpected heroics. However, given the recent struggles that both Croatia and Mexico faced in qualifying, Cameroon could surprise.

Cameroon Odds to Win Group A: +2500 (from Bovada)

Winless in 2010 and failing to qualify in 2006, Cameroon will be looking for their first World Cup victory since defeating Saudi Arabia in the Group Stage in 2002. The squad qualified with a 4-1 two-game aggregate win over Tunisia but were thrashed 5-1 in a recent friendly against Portugal. Cameroon will be tested in friendlies against Macedonia, Paraguay and Germany in the three weeks prior to the World Cup

Early World Cup Pick

Cameroon fields a young, physical team, but will have a mountain to climb in the Group Stage. They open against a Mexico team that has struggled against top-end competition, and an upset is not out of the question.

The greatest advantage Cameroon will face against Croatia is Brazil’s sultry June weather. The World Cup is a rare occasion for the Croats to play outside of Europe, and Cameroon’s physical style could wear down Croatia, especially if the game occurs on a hot and steamy day.

Cameroon shocked Brazil when they defeated them 1-0 in the 2003 Confederations Cup. But that was 11 years ago, and Brazil, looking outstanding in recent friendlies, will likely be too much for the young Cameroon side.

Cameroon Qualifying Results - How they got to the World Cup
