Odds Colombia Will Win World Cup 2014
Colombia enters Brazil 2014 as the favourite in what many observers consider to be the tournament’s weakest group. Indeed, the Colombians, No. 5 in FIFA’s world rankings, arguably faced tougher competition during their qualification than they will in Group C; recording a victory and draw against Chile, and a draw against World Cup favourite Argentina. However, there will be no pushovers in the group, which also includes Ivory Coast, Japan and Greece.
Colombia will be facing the unknown during Group Stage play. The squad has never played Ivory Coast or Greece, and has played Japan only twice; a 1-0 victory at the 2003 Confederations Cup and a 1-1 draw at the 2007 Kirin Cup. However, the Colombians have looked strong in recent international play, recording a solid 2-0 victory over 12th-ranked Belgium while playing Netherlands and Chile to draws.
Early World Cup Pick
Pegged as a -150 favorite, Colombia does not enter the Group Stage as a heavy favorite the way that Brazil and Spain do in their respective groups. But there is no reason to expect that they will not dominate. Colombia is not expected to face stiff competition from Ivory Coast. However, like Colombia, Japan have looked strong recently against European competition, and appear to be heading into Brazil 2014 on a high note. Greece, who sport a stellar defense cannot be taken for granted. The Greeks are the longshot in the group, sitting at +900, but may give Colombia all they can handle.
