Odds Netherlands Will Win World Cup

After dropping a 1-0 decision in extra time to Spain in the final match of the 2010 World Cup, Netherlands reached No. 1 in FIFA’s world rankings in the summer of 2011. However, the Dutch have struggled since, first losing all three of their matches in the Group Stage at Euro 2012 (to Germany, Portugal and Denmark), and failing to defeat a World Cup-qualified team since. Netherlands currently sits at No. 15 in FIFA’s world rankings, sporting disappointing odds of 25/1 to win at Brazil 2014.

Netherlands Odds to Win World Cup 2014: 25/1 (from Bovada)
Netherlands Odds to Win Group B: +225 (from Bovada)

The Dutch have recently played three friendlies against squads who will participate in Brazil 2014. After playing to draws against Japan and Colombia, the Netherlands were soundly beaten by France 2-0, in a game where the French had ample opportunity to run up the score. While the Orange faithful may be concerned, the Dutch squad is stacked with experience and firepower that will make them a dangerous adversary at the 2014 World Cup.

Early World Cup Pick

The Netherlands kick off World Cup 2014 with a grudge match against Spain, who defeated them in the World Cup final four years ago. Unlike Spain, who have played outstanding football since last year’s Confederations Cup, the Dutch have struggled and will certainly take the pitch against Spain as underdogs. The Dutch will face Chile for the first time in a match that is likely to determine second place in Group B. The Chileans, 2-2-2 in their last six against qualified squads, will be buoyed by a partisan crowd and will give the Dutch all they can handle. Netherlands are winless in three matches all-time against Australia, but will be expected to easily handle the Socceroos.
