Odds Nigeria Will Win World Cup 2014
Winners of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, Nigeria appear to be a football power on the rise. After winning their group in the 1994 and 1998 World Cup tournaments, Nigeria finished dead last in the Group Stage in 2002 and 2010, and failed to qualify for the tourney in 2006. The Nigerian squad features a number of young, talented players including the trio of Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike, who will be counted on to produce offense.
While Nigeria is a a growing offensive force, they are unlikely to challenge Argentina for top spot in Group F. Sporting odds of +800, Nigeria also trails Bosnia-Herzegovina in odds to win the group. The young squad has gained some valuable experience recently against top-tier national sides, including playing to draws against Mexico and Italy. However, the Nigerians will have to take their game to the next level to have a chance of returning to the Round of 16.
Early World Cup Pick
For the fourth time since the 1994 World Cup in the USA, Nigeria has drawn into the same group as Argentina. After dropping a 1-0 decision in the Group Stage of the 2010 World Cup, the Nigerians recorded their first ever victory over Argentina, a 4-1 win, in a 2011 friendly against an Argentine squad consisting mainly of young prospects. Nigeria will not be so fortunate this time around against the squad sporting the second best odds to win the World Cup. Conversely, Nigeria’s offensive weapons should be enough against a weak Iran side. Nigeria does match up well against Bosnia-Herzegovina, who they will need to defeat to advance to the Round of 16.
