Odds Spain Will Win World Cup 2014
The 2010 World Cup champions will travel to Brazil listed among the favorites to claim their second World Cup title. Spain sits atop the FIFA world rankings, but at 13/2 trails host Brazil, Argentina and Germany in World Cup futures wagering. Spain will open the tournament with a highly anticipated rematch against the Netherlands, who they defeated in the finale of the 2010 World Cup. Spain will also face challenges from Chile and Australia in the Group Stage.
Spain had little difficulty in World Cup qualifying, going undefeated in eight matches. However, they have struggled in big games since winning Euro 2012. The squad failed to get past the Group Stage at the 2012 Olympics, losing to Honduras and Japan, and were trounced 3-0 by Brazil in the 2013 Confederations Cup. Spain has enjoyed success against Chile with a 5-1-0 record all-time, and will be facing the longshot Australians for the first time at Brazil 2014.
Early World Cup Pick
Spain is the top-ranked squad in the world, defending World Cup champs, and one of the favorites to win this year’s tourney, sporting World Cup odds of 13/2. However, they face stiff competition in the Group Stage, most notably from the Netherlands, whom they defeated to win World Cup 2010. Since being ranked No. 1 in the world in 2011, Netherlands have tumbled to No. 15 and have struggled against elite competition. Chile may present a challenge to Spain. Considered a dark horse threat, Chile tied Spain 2-2 back in September and have posted wins against Ecuador and England since. Australia is a +3300 longshot in Group B and are not expected to be a threat.
