Portugal vs Ghana Betting Preview
Portugal and Ghana each have only one point in group play, but each is still alive to advance to the round of 16.
However, neither holds their destiny in their hands, as they need a winner in the Germany vs. USA match and each has to overcome a goal differential. And that destiny slipped away further from Ghana Thursday when two star players were kicked off the team for abusing team officials.
According to Yahoo, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Ali Muntari were suspended after verbal abuse and physical threats to team officials. The line was sliding in Portugal's favor this morning and could move considerably depending on the replacements named by Ghana.
Both squads played to a 2-2 draw in their last match after losing their opener.
Bovada has Portugal as the World Cup betting favorite in the match posted at -133 with Ghana posted at +325 and a draw line of +260. Those lines have surely moved in the past while, check the latest odds.
Ghana played a good match in the draw facing Germany, as even though they were, somewhat, dominated in time of possession they had nine more shots.
Since each squad needs three points and to make up goal differential each will be on the attack from the get go. This may play into the hands of Portugal with Christian Ronaldo and company. While the superstar has yet to score in the World Cup he is the man the Ghana defense has to key on and he had the great assist to give Portugal the vital draw against the USA.
Asamoah Gyan has been in fine form for Ghana and he is the player the Portugal defense has to worry about. Ghana does have pace on the attack, but they may be overmatched in the midfield so they have to play well in that area of the pitch.
Portugal and Ronaldo have not hit their stride so far in the World Cup and while it may not matter they will do so in this match. They will win and hope that the cards fall for them in the other scenarios that see them through to the knockout stage.
