Teams Look to Tune Up for World Cup

The World Cup is still a few months away, but on Wednesday March fifth another round of international friendlies take place, as teams look to get ready for Brazil. There are some key friendly matches taking place on March fifth and betting odds have been posted for them at 5Dimes.

Here are some of the bigger matches taking place with teams playing in the World Cup this summer and the match odds.

Japan (-538) vs. New Zealand (+1952) Draw +630

Japan begins to tinker with their squad that is not in the toughest group in Brazil. The Japanese need to find some offense and they will be tested by a Kiwis’ squad that did not qualify for the World Cup after losing an intercontinental tie with Mexico.

Greece (+115) vs. South Korea (+310) Draw +219

This friendly is one between two teams that have qualified for Brazil. South Korea did not look good in WC qualifying and while they have a solid striker in Heung-Min Son from Bayer Leverkusen their midfield is an issue and they play a Greek squad that has a great defense.

Romania (+600) vs. Argentina (-200) Draw +300

Argentina has the second best betting odds to win the World Cup and they face a good Romania squad that missed out on the World Cup losing in a European playoff tie. Will Lionel Messi play? Can the Romanian defense give the loaded Argentine offense a test? Big question for this match.

Ukraine (+140) vs. USA (+200) Draw +220

The USA is in the Group of Death and faces a good Ukraine team that narrowly missed out on playing in Brazil losing to France in the second leg of a European playoff tie. The Americans have issues up front and their defense will be tested by a good Ukrainian offense.

Switzerland (+138) vs. Croatia (+200) Draw +225

Both of these teams may be dark horses this summer in Brazil. The battle in the midfield will be the key thing to watch in this friendly.

Belgium (-163) vs. Ivory Coast (+450) Draw +280

Belgium has a young and dynamic squad, but they do not have much experience at the international level. Facing an Ivory Coast squad that is playing in Brazil will be a good test.

Portugal (-333) vs. Cameroon (+900) Draw +400

This is another friendly between two teams playing next summer. Portugal has a great offense led by Cristiano Ronaldo and will face a Cameroon team that does feature Samuel Eto’o, but has the second worst odds to be the top World Cup finishing team from Africa.

Spain (-188) vs. Italy (+500) Draw +300

Another big battle between European rivals that have high hopes this summer. Spain is the defending World Cup winner and, once again, has a loaded squad.

Mexico (-110) vs. Nigeria (+260) Draw +240

Mexico looked for from solid in WC qualifying and faces a Nigeria squad that is aging, but has some world-class talent in the midfield.
